PORCELAIN LAMINATES & VENEERS

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, it’s just like a false fingernail which fits over a nail. Veneers can improve the color, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain is chosen to give the right color to improve discolored teeth or just lighten your teeth. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look whole again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth, with a thicker section replacing the broken part. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) is not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the other

Dental porcelain in right hands can make for spectacular tooth imitations by mimicking tooth enamel perfectly.

Porcelain veneers within reason allow for the alteration of tooth position, shape, size &color. They require a minimal amount of tooth preparation (approximately 0.5 mm of the surface enamel) – and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than a crown. Although not the only alternative for all aesthetic abnormalities, they are truly a remarkable restoration when they are treatment of choice.

Though Veneers can be fabricated in composite too – the preferred material is ceramic hence the rest of this discussion shall be keeping in mind porcelain veneers.
