A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, it’s just like a false fingernail which fits over a nail. Veneers can improve the color, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain is chosen to give the right color to improve discolored teeth or just lighten your teeth. A veneer can make a chipped tooth look whole again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth, with a thicker section replacing the broken part. Porcelain veneers within reason allow for the alteration of tooth position, shape, size &color. They require a minimal amount of tooth preparation (approximately 0.5 mm of the surface enamel) – and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than a crown.
